Would be better if it was an updated pocket guide with more pictures, but as their only option for the new place I am moving (Springs), it wasn’t terribly disappointing. It tries to cover too much ground though (read: all of CO) and therefore misses the mark or being intimate or personal for any one area. Good as an overall. No depth.
I just spent 10 days in Colorado and wanted some help deciding where to go and what to see while I was there. My guidebooks of choice are always Rough Guides, but one didn't exist for Colorado, so I decided to give this Lonely Planet guide a try. I was thoroughly disappointed. I found the descriptions throughout the book to be too high-level and fluffy, and it seemed to just be a collection of restaurant and hotel listings. I spent probably 30 minutes looking through it before my trip and didn't get anything from it. I brought it with me anyway and never opened it again. I relied instead on the internet, and I did a lot better than I would have using this book. I realize this sounds strong, but I do a fair amount of traveling and this was the worst guidebook I've ever used.
The index shows the cities divided by areas. There are colored thumb dividers for easy location to areas. Location maps are included with what to do, where to eat, and where to sleep. There is a Top 25 listing of top 25 places to go in Colorado. We used to live there, southwest of Denver, and now are planning a trip over the state.
This book has great information to plan a vacation. Most of the pictures are black and white but the content is very helpful.
Received it in good shape, and am enjoying learning about Colorado.I have purchased Lonely Planet books before and like them.
Bought this as a gift for my parents for when they are in Colorado visiting family - they absolutely love it. Lots of great, varied info on places all over the state. Good for a budding tourist - probably not great for someone who has been living there for a while.
Colorful, thorough manual. Very useful in planning family summer vacation to Colorado.
Lonely Planet is always good. Plenty of ideas and recommendations to get you started.
