I got this book alone with Jane Patrick's book right after getting my rigid heddle loom as I wanted to teach myself to use it. While the book sounds like it's a simple guide to rigid heddle weaving, I found Jane Patrick's book on Creative Cloth on the Rigid Heddle Loom to be more clear and succinct for a new weaver. This book has a lot of good information, nice background reading, more explanation on looms, structure, color theory, and things like that, but the patterns are more complicated to weave, and frankly are really out dated. I did not find any of them to be inviting to actually do the project as they all looked like they were from the 60s.The book is a good resource, however, if you want to read more on looms and drafting basics and other reference information on rigid heddle weaving. If you want to teach yourself to weave and have a clearer guide to weaving, I'd recommend the Jane Patrick book instead.
This might be the best book about rigid heddle looms that has been published. After trying to understand the diagrams and explanations of many other books on the subject, including instructions that come with specific looms, I found this book the most comprehensible.
i'm a weaving newbie and have taught myself off of on-line courses, videos, and books like this. i have two or three i go to when i have questions or need to review things and this is one of them (the other is The Weaver's Idea Book by Jane Patrick). the drawings are so accurate and helpful--its brief without scrimping on important info, its clear, its concise. its also a bit dated as far as the look goes, but as with most books/demos i just need to know how to do certain techniques and then do them to my taste :) i think i've gone to it multiple times with every weaving project i've done. this is an excellent resource and invaluable to someone like me--who doesn't have an actual person to ask questions. highly recommended.
New weavers - make this book your first purchase after your loom!!! Wish I had this on day 1 of my weaving adventures!! Clear pictures and helpful instructions. I was also pleased to see the loom she uses was a Beka RH loom with the "teeth" as very few books show those. Great book for any RH loom!
I have looked and looked for books specifically devoted to Rigid Heddle Weaving, and like other reviews say, this one is pretty much it. It's pretty comprehensive but just a bit dated. I would love someone to come out with a new one with high quality pictures and some more modern 'hacks'but beggars can't be choosers. Not a very large book but it does go over a lot of different aspects just not in too much detail.
This book is a little dated, but boy does it hold a bunch of knowledge. My students like it and I have no complaints.
I found the tone of this book to be very reassuring, rather like an EZ knitting book. It's no longer the only weaving book I have, but I still refer to it on a semi-regular basis.
Hands on Rigid Heddle Weaving is a very informative, well written "how to." It walked me through the entire process from warping to dressing the loom to weaving and removing my project. I recommend it.
