I love Marjorie Sarnat's talent and have a few of her coloring books and enjoy them. I pre-ordered this book as I know it would be a beautiful one and it didn't disappoint me. There are so many different angels with beautiful faces and scenes.I love them all. The paper is nice and single sided, just like all of Creative Haven's coloring book papers, although I still used a cardstock behind the page I colored when I used alcohol markers.

Beautifully illustrated coloring book. These are some of the most gorgeous angels I've seen. As with all of the Creative Haven coloring books, the pages are printed clearly on single sided, perforated quality paper. Plus, the price was great.

Creative Haven is a great company that produces beautiful books! I personally am not a fan of Marjorie sarnat because I feel her images are repetitive with the same elements. However! However! This one is filled with angels and not her typical pets. The angels have beautiful faces, beautiful wings and beautiful surroundings! I'm very happy that I purchased this and I'm looking forward to her fairies book much later in the year. Creative Haven has one sided prints that are perforated for easy removal. The paper is a medium weight, a little bit thicker than copy paper but it takes the pencil nice and evenly and you can layer with it.

I get emails from Dover Publications to check out sample pages and after seeing the ones for Beautiful Angels knew that I would enjoy coloring in this book. I have a couple of other books by Marjorie Sarnat and love all the drawings. The angels in this book are beautiful and graceful. Some drawings are a little more detailed than others but not overly so. The paper in the book works well with both markers and pencils. Markers will bleed through so keep something behind your page while coloring.

I am rather new to Marjorie Sarnat's books. I have to say they are impressive. The angels in this book are just strikingly depicted. There is so much detail and beauty you want to color every page.The books have create space paper. I find 3 layers or perhaps 4 are all you can get from this paper, but a light touch really works wonders. I have included a picture of mine which really got a lot of comments, even from Marjorie.I recommend this book, if you love angels, you will love the pictures in here.

This book by Marjorie Sarnat is another beautiful book. She is very talented. I have almost all of her books and have preordered another one. Hope she keeps them coming. They are a lot of fun to color in. Very relaxing and this particular one is soooo pretty. I love it!!

As usual, Marjorie's drawings in this book are quite detailed and clearly drawn. I have completed several of the pictures and didn't have to ask myself what any of the details were supposed to represent. The paper is medium weight and bright white. I used Prismacolors to complete the pictures and the colors blended easily on this paper. I definitely recommend this book!Update 1/6/2019: I forgot to mention in my original review that OMS has a tendency to smear the black lines of the original drawing, and is noticeable in the areas where you are usung lighter colors. I believe this is a given for any of the Creative Haven books. If you normally use OMS to blend your colored pencils this can be a problem. I recommend using a blender stick instead.

I think that while this book has great concepts and exercises in it, the format that these are presented is a bit bulksome and very difficult to read. His method of numbering is horrible. He has exercises (unnumbered), problems (numbered), theorems (numbered) and statements (numbered in a different format than the theorems). Finding anything in the book is a nightmare. Referring to a concept in the book usually requires something like "Go to the 45th page and then find the 3rd exercise from the bottom (exercises have no number remember). There is a line above that with the statement that you need." The whole book could use a major format overhaul. Then it would be a 5 star book.

I'd give this 5 stars if all the printing mistakes were eliminated (things like missing square root signs). I guess they're still trying to get the kinks out of the kindle electronic format. I assume these problems are not there in the regular printed edition, but I don't know.The material itself is great... very thorough. Perfect for some who has taken an introductory linear algebra course already. Plenty of exercises.

In this book Edward Dusinberre provides tremendous insight into the mind of a musician and the life of a string quartet. In the film "A Late Quartet," Christopher Walken describes the extraordinary complexity of performing Beethoven's Opus 131 string quartet. Beethoven demanded that the entire piece - seven movements - be played without pause. Inevitably, Walken's character explains, the instruments fall out of tune, forcing each musician to adapt his/her own playing to the demands of the instruments and the playing of the other musicians. In the film, this is a powerful metaphor for life and Dusinberre does a beautiful job of making the same point through his memoir/reflection. He describes the music he plays, and the people with whom he plays it, in loving detail. He shows a remarkable awareness, often lacking in intensely creative people, of self-reflection and self-criticism. The lesson, or one of them, that he seems to have learned in his years with the Takacs Quartet is that life is a struggle between our own self-regard and our regard and affection for those closest to us - but a richly rewarding one if we approach it with the right spirit.I am not very knowledgeable about music technically. I can't read music and have a very difficult time following conversations or writing that focus on composition or technique, but I was still very much able to follow and enjoy Dusinberre's style (though doubtless I would have gotten even more out of it if knew more). This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested, as I am, in the life of the creative mind even if, and often especially because, I don't possess the same talents as the author.I would also recommend that anyone interested in this book watch "A Late Quartet" if they haven't.

Having played string quartets professionally for almost a quarter of a century (Sequoia Quartet 1972-1987, Cleveland Quartet 1987-1995) I know the ins and outs of quartet playing, especially preparing and presenting the complete Beethoven Cycle. Ed Dusinberre does a remarkable job of inviting the reader into the midst of a quartet rehearsal (for real!) and simultaneously sharing the fascinating history behind the life and works of Beethoven. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its intimacy, which is one reason I love watching and listening to a string quartet in concert. I try as much as possible to sit close to the performers, and this book brought me even closer to these extraordinarily talented and accomplished musicians. The author cleverly intertwines his autobiographical perspective as first violinist of the Takacs Quartet with intriguing accounts of Beethoven's composition and early performances (and performers) of his string quartets. The book is filled with fascinating descriptions of people and events in Beethoven's life interspersed with deeply personal accounts of rehearsals and performances by the internationally renowned Takacs Quartet. My enjoyment was probably heightened by having seen the Takacs in performance but this book provides valuable insights into the interpretation of these compositions that all ensembles must struggle with. I highly recommend this book to all classical music lovers, even if they (like me) are not musicians themselves. It has added considerably to my appreciation and understanding of Beethoven's string quartets.

An excellent and very readable description of the life of a professional musician and the dynamics of working in a quartet. Intertwined with this are prescient observations on Beethoven's life, and the structure of the late quartets. As a result of reading this book, I bought a copy of the scores, so that I can follow along as I listen. I also bought the Tcakas recordings of the late quartets to compare with my Guinari Quartet set. This book really opens your ears!

I've been seeing the Takacs Quartet live since 1995. In fact, I just saw them conclude their Beethoven quartets cycle last month.They never fail to maze me with their passion for their music and their superb technical skills and musicianship. This book is a wonderful "backstage" look at how they work as a quartet, both as individuals and as a group. I'm a lapsed musician myself (violin & viola) and I loved this book. Highly recommended for chamber music buffs.

Very enjoyable read! The author did a wonderful job weaving his experience as a violinist with biographical information about Beethoven, history during the time of the compositions, and the author's experience as a member of a chamber quartet. It was an entertaining, quick read. I'm now returning to the Beethoven string quartets and will listen to then anew with the authors notes and interpretations in mind. Although I am not a musician, I highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed this book immensely. Dusinberre created something unique and wonderful, weaving together as he does his own personal narrative and his experience of performing the Beethoven quartets, along with with the stories of Beethoven, the quartets, and the original performers of those works. Reading the book was somewhat slow going, as the musical content is so rich and dense, but it is well worth spending time with. I would say it’s one of the best of its kind, but it is one of a kind. And very well written too!

In preparation for the Beethoven Cycle being presented in Berkeley by the Takács String Quartet over 6 concerts I picked up this book by the first violinist in a he group. It is just right for a non-musician who wants to get some insight into what goes into preparing for a concert. There is also a good deal of history of the composition of the pieces deftly inserted into the book

You won't be disappointed with this story. What a life! Once you figure out from the story how she is situated in the Vanderbilt line you just glide through her ups and downs knowing she is a strong and intelligent woman. She did the best she could given the circumstances of her life and of course it always helps if you have lots of money. Good historical references covering several decades of her life. All come alive within the vivid time periods.

I loved this book, especially the main characters. The history is solid and I love how it intertwined with the story. A must read it you like Karen Harper

Nicely written with attention to detail. At times a bit slow moving and wished the characters were a little more developed.

I enjoyed this historical fiction story of Consuelo Vanderbilt and we walk in her shoes as she journeys her life, and although being born with the preverbal silver spoon, we see her trials and accomplishments up close through the eyes of the author.Now I’ll admit I did Google Consuelo, and the story follows the time line, only we are with her and her thoughts.What a life this woman lived, and loved how she was able to forgive those who had hurt her, and was always giving to those less fortunate.A don’t miss book for the new year, and your enjoyment!I received this book through Edelweiss and the Publisher William Morrow, and was not required to give a positive review

I love learning about different aspects of history, whether they be important events or just about different people through time. I knew absolutely nothing about Consuelo Vanderbilt going into my reading of this book so it was exciting to be introduced to this tiny tidbit of American/English history.Consuelo is the daughter of an overbearing mother and a very, very rich father. Her mother is determined that her daughter will marry well and to that end she takes her on a tour of Europe in search of a title. She finds her one in the Duke of Marlborough who needs a wife with money to save his family’s estate, Blenheim Palace – the only castle not owned by the Crown.Consuelo does not want to marry the Duke as she believes herself to be in love with another man but her mother is determined. So therefore the marriage goes forward and soon Consuelo finds herself as the ninth Duchess of Marlborough. She moves into Blenheim and soon brings some American thinking to the staid English estate. In time she becomes known for her kindness.The book explores the life of Consuelo as she changes from innocent young heiress to a woman running from the German invasion of France in WWII and beyond. It’s not like I can spoil plot as Consuelo’s life if part of the historical record but I suspect that many are like me and don’t know much about her.This was an easy reading book that I read in one long afternoon. I was really rooting for Consuelo because I really had a hard time with her mother. Talk about a social climber – whew! There was a lot of time and material to cover and at times I felt it went a bit too quickly but Ms. Harper did keep the book focused on Consuelo throughout. It is definitely her story. I would like to learn more about her after reading this as I feel there is more to know. Consuelo did write an autobiography and I think it would be quite interesting to read.The period after WWI did find a number of titled Englishmen seeking rich wives to help rebuild/maintain estates that had been in their families for generations. England had been decimated by the war and many of the old families were hurting for money. The US was humming along and there was a lot of money to be found. It’s interesting to learn about this period in history.I received a free copy for my honest review

I couldn't wait to read this book. Now I wonder why. I don't know if it's because I couldn't stand the fact that "poor" Consuelo Vanderbilt never had a chance against her mother. An overbearing mother, a simpering daughter and a father/husband who was only good for making money. Or, because I felt it so boring. Either way, I've set it aside for another day, maybe. I will say, I can't blame the author for her writing...she only wrote about Consuelo's life, she didn't live it. And by the way, if you happen to see a picture of the 9th Duke of Marlborough, you'd probably run also!

Great resource and well written

I recommend to those who are busy in their daily life but still wanted to learn/practice their Deen correctly.

The Accessible Conspectus, translated and annotated by Shaykh Musa Furber, is an excellent resource for learning Islamic Law according to the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence for beginner-intermediate level students . The basic text is from Imam Abu Shuja' Al-Isfahani's classic primer Al Ghayat al Taqrib or commonly known as Matn Abu Shuja'. This is the first text studied in Shafi'i jurisprudence that covers the entire basic spectrum of rulings typically found in larger works.Shaykh Musa has provided useful explanatory notes and basic evidence that suit the needs of contemporary students who want to grasp the basic concepts and rulings. Oftentimes, classical primers such as Abu Shuja's list only abbreviated and terse statements that are inaccessible without the aid of a living qualified teacher and or detailed commentary or marginalia. This is not to say that this book is meant to obviate the need to learn Islamic law from qualified teachers. Classical Islamic texts, even with detailed commentary, still require the aid of a living qualified teacher to explain any difficulties in terminology, comprehension and other conditions not mentioned. Matn al-Ghayat wa-l-Taqrib or “Abi Shajaa” is a well known and acclaimed primer on Shafi Fiqh. Abu Shuja (may Allah have Mercy on him), the author, is said to have had a mastery of Fiqh – both in terms of knowledge and action.
